Weekend
Away at Green Gables, April 2006
|
The church weekend was at Green Gables hotel in Scarborough:
further away than we usually travel, so a coach was booked to
depart from the church early Friday afternoon and we arrived
in the evening.
Green Gables is a Victorian establishment with high ceilings
and rambling corridors, and all very comfortable. |

|
The subject of the weekend was "the gifting of the Holy
Spirit", and we had a number of meetings throughout the
weekend led by our guest speaker William.
After examining the nature of spiritual gifts, William led
us to first examine ourselves and then one another to determine
the giftings within our church.
The conclusion was that, despite being a relatively small
church, the members at Bethel have a broad spread of giftings:
God is good to us. |
|
It was not all hard work - there was time for games in the
light and airy conservatory.
The hotel also provides an indoor pool and games rooms. It
backs onto a park. The town and the sea front are not very far
away. |
|
|
We had full board accommodation: three meals a day in a busy
dining hall. Time to share food and fellowship together, and
a surprise birthday cake for Dawn who celebrated her birthday
over the weekend.
The cake was big enough for a slice for everybody. |
|
Saturday afternoon was free time. It was a weekend of sunshine
and showers, but very pleasant on the Saturday afternoon. An
opportunity to see Scarborough: the town, the bay, the castle.
Saturday evening was concert time when people displayed their
talents with singing, comedy, poetry, and stories. |
